A group has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to prosecute the new Ooni of Ife, Prince Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
OOni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi
A human rights group known as the Centre for Human Eights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute the new Ooni of Ife, Prince Adeyeye Ogunwusi, over forgery allegations.
Chairman of the group, Adeniyi Sulaiman, wrote a letter to the chairman of the EFCC on Monday, November 2, the Punch reports.
In a letter, a copy of which was sent to President Muhammadu Buhari, the CHRSJ noted that the allegations were weighty and called for immediate prosecution.
Sulaiman stressed that the allegation of forgery, fraudulent conversion and obtaining of N400 million against Prince Ogunwusi and his company should be thoroughly investigated.
The group warned the commission that if it failed to begin the prosecution after seven days of receipt of the letter, the CHRSJ would get court injunction to compel the EFCC to prosecute the new Ooni of Ife.
“We wish to refer the Honourable chairman to the contents of a weighty petition involving various acts of criminality namely forgery, fraudulent conversion and obtaining the sum of N400m by false presence levied against the above named person.
“We also refer the chairman to the EFCC’s letter dated 17th September 2015 to Principal Parter, Olawoyin (Legal Practitioners) and a letter dated 23rd September 2015 from Olawoyin & Olawoyin (Legal Practitioners) to EFCC on the same subject matter.
“In view of the foregoing. We hereby request your commission to prosecute immediately upon the receipt of this letter,” the letter read.
Meanwhile, Prince Ogunwusi has been moved into seclusion at a shrine known as Ilofi in Ile-Ife, Osun state, where he will stay for the next 21 days.
During his stay in seclusion, which is a part of preparations towards his coronation, the Ooni-deisgnate will go through initiation processes into different cults.
How Buhari’s Treasury Single Account Saved Nigeria students and Billions Of Naira
Already, President Muhammadu Buhari’s resolve to rid Nigeria of corruptive elements is fast yielding results as billions of naira are being saved in the process.
The invitation of this single account by the administration as saved million of students who attend federal school nation wide as school fees as minimum amount are been paid by the poor students unlike the hike fee mounted on them before... E. G schools like Unillorin, our and host of others also federal poly offa and ede and host of others.
Shortly after his inauguration, President Buhari ordered every Federal Government Ministry, Department and Agencies to start paying into a Treasury Single Account (TSA) for all government revenues, incomes and other receipts.
The Daily Times gathered that through the implementation of the TSA, a whopping N8 billion was uncovered in a single account in an old generation bank. The said amount is said to be operated in the name of a defence operation account.
A text message to the Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications of the bank, to authenticate the story, was not responded to as at press time. Similarly, Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, did not also respond to a text message sent to him to speak on the alleged uncovering of the amount in the bank as at press time.
Col. Rabe Abubakar, Acting Director of Defence Information was also contacted through a text message but failed to respond to it as at press time.
It would be recalled that President Buhari had earlier promised state governors at the inaugural meeting of the National Economic Council, NEC, in June, that all revenues prescribed for lodgement into the federation account will be treated as such under his watch and that he will ensure strict compliance with all relevant laws on accounting, allocation and disbursement.
Since then, the Presidency has worked with relevant agencies of the Federal Government to evolve this policy directive.
This directive applies to fully funded organs of government like the Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Foreign Missions, as well as the partially funded ones, like Teaching Hospitals, Medical Centres, Federal Tertiary Institutions, etc.
Agencies like the CBN, SEC, CAC, NPA, NCC, FAAN, NCAA, NIMASA, NDIC, NSC, NNPC, FIRS, NCS, MMSD, DPR are also affected.
For any agency that is fully or partially self-funding, Sub-Accounts linked to TSA are to be maintained at CBN and the accounting system will be configured to allow them access to funds based on their approved budgetary provisions.

If you Love someone, let them know_Nollywood Actress
Genevieve Nnaji has opened up on her new movie Road to Yesterday which is set to hit the cinemas nationwide soon, and how it relates to her..She also advised not to take any one for granted when it comes to love..Excerpts from her chat with Daily Sun…
What inspired the production of the film at this point in time?
Having waited for something of interest for me to do to entertain my fans; having missed the craft, I did not find anything of interest. So, I figured that I had to take my future in my own hands and produce the type of movie that I want to be associated with at this point in time. I mean a film that will reflect my growth as a person and as an artiste, and also where I feel the industry should be turning towards. It is a statement in so many ways. It just felt like the right time to do it.
Does any part of the film reflect anything about Genevieve either as an individual or thespian?
That is the fact that I don’t dwell on bad situations for too long before moving on.
If you were to advice a Genevieve on how best to protect her relationship, marriage and image, what would you say to her?
I would tell her never take anyone for granted. If you love someone, don’t waste time in letting them know. Life is too short and we have to make every minute count

Can mtn loose it shareholders, with 1.4tr fine
Following the instructions given to the widest telecommunication network in Africa to pay a fine for not complete it Sim registration as at when due as ordered by the NCC in Nigeria against some scrupulous act by hackers, some actions are getting out of hand by the mtn shareholders in south-Africa.
THE Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) yesterday halted trading in MTN Group shares, pending an announcement from the company.
The stock tumbled last week after MTN was slammed with a fine of N1.04 trillion ($5.2 billion) fines in Nigeria, by the communications commission. The company’s bonds dropped for a third day, driving yields to a record.
MTN allegedly breached SIM card registration rules, as it failed to disconnect customers with unregistered SIM cards totalling about 5.2 million. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) requires mobile network operators to register all customers in a bid to curb crime.
According to bdlive.co.za, which quoted JSE Director Issuer Regulation, John Burke, “the JSE has halted all trading on MTN Group Limited. Trading will resume as soon as MTN Group Limited has issued a SENS announcement.” The JSE is also investigating the company over possible insider trading.
Also, Bloomberg has it that the telecommunications firm’s stock fell as much as 9.7 per cent before paring losses and was the biggest decliner on the benchmark FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index. Trading was halted with the stock 5.3 per cent down at 149.48 rand by 10:33 a.m. in Johannesburg.
The securities have slid 22 per cent since MTN said it’s facing the fine on Octoer 26.
Investors “were expecting something to come out at the weekend and it hasn’t, and now the pressure is on because they’ve been told that they have to pay this fine by next week,” Rob Pietropaolo, a trader at Vunani Private Clients (Pty) Ltd., said by phone from Johannesburg. “Because of their lack of communication, investors are punishing the share and obviously running for safety.”
The JSE halted all trading in the stock, which will resume once MTN has released a statement, the JSE said in an e-mailed statement.
Politician other escape BVN, do I say the bank are sabotaging....
At least for now fear of being identified as owners of huge deposits in banks, amid acclaimed success in the Bank Verification Number (BVN), some politically exposed persons and top officers in the public service seem to have evaded the scheme, The Guardian has learnt.
This revelation came to light last night as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) extended the timeline for banks’ customers in the Diaspora to enroll for their BVN to January 31, 2016.
A competent source in the banking sector said the deposits belonging to such groups, which are still in the system, are so enormous that none of the banks associated with the lodgments would want to miss them.
According to the source, the proceeds were earlier trapped in the banking sector with the sudden policy to refuse dollar deposits and non-transfer outside the country without verifiable details of the transactions.
The source also said the development has now been compounded with the latest policy from the CBN that foreign exchange transactions must be with verified BVN, even in the purchase of foreign exchange.
It also said that the public and banking sector officials’ collaboration in illegal business of this nature, is exactly what led to idling of billions of naira belonging to government, which was exposed by the implementation of TSA.
However, the CBN has declared the BVN a success and the beginning of a new dawn in the country’s payment landscape, adding that there is no going back on the prescribed sanctions for non-compliance to the exercise.
But the Director of Communications Department, CBN, Alhaji Ibrahim Mu’azu, who spoke to The Guardian, said he would be surprised to hear that a bank allowed transactions in a non-BVN compliant account, because it is a project agreed upon by all of them.
Besides, the bank director explained that banks have invested heavily in the project to sabotage it, added that they fully know the consequences of such mistake or deliberate action.
But some middle level managers of banks told The Guardian yesterday, that such development is possible, but denied the existence of such in their respective banks.
One of them said that such plan is high-level “coded arrangement” which the arrangers know that if it gets bad, it would consume them all.
Speaking with former President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Mazi Okechukwu Unegbu, he said that he would not be surprised to hear such, as many treasury looters have been trapped by the unique identification mode of BVN.
But the total figure of 21 million which the CBN says is the number of BVN registrants so far raises a new concern over the success of the financial inclusion initiative.
Still a regulatory source had confided in The Guardian that there were non-active, as well as active accounts in banks, numbering in millions that were not captured in the BVN exercise.
The source explained that among the numbers were the long owed pensioners, who do not see need to activate accounts that nothing is being paid into, while the other group that falls into the number are those “who have multiple identities” with various infractions and by way of not exposing themselves, have opted out.
“But I can assure you that there is no other way to get into banking relationship from now on except through the BVN. The scheme is meant to capture biometrics, rather that fictitious house addresses before now,” the source noted.
According to the Nigeria Interbank-Settlement System, about 12,000 Nigerians in Diaspora have so far taken advantage of the BVN registration centres created outside the country.
Meanwhile, The Guardian has noted that as the financial institutions embark on enforcement of the “BVN for transaction” directive yesterday, several issues emerged, as many customers of banks claimed lack of awareness on the need to link their various accounts in other banks to the BVN.
The banks’ customers, who pleaded anonymity, also claimed that although they have duly register

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu also confirmed the report.
“As I am talking to you now, the President is yet to receive any message from the Senate that the ministerial nominees have been cleared. Maybe the Senate will do this when it resumes this week but it has not done so yet,” Shehu said.
“It is only when that is done that the President can go ahead to swear in the nominees to become members of the Federal Executive Council,” he added.

One of the twins, Owami, told the magazine:
“We have always done everything together…that is how our grandmother raised us. So when we decided to marry, we said any man that wants to marry one, will marry the other.”

CBN Says BVN Registration Continues
Following the expiration of the October 31st deadline for the registration for Bank Verification Number, the Central Bank of Nigeria has announced that the process will still be ongoing.
The deadline was just to achieve a primary aim of creating more awareness about the exercise.
“Deadline was successful because the awareness has been created to millions of customers and the banking hall were empty unlike the June deadline where there were chaos everywhere in the banking halls,” he said.
He added that people that hadn’t registered would now lose access to their bank accounts until they did.

Avoiding ‘cancer’ in processed meat
Processed meat is meat that has been altered to either extend its shelf life or change the taste by methods which include mainly smoking, curing, or adding salt or preservatives.
They include hot dog, ham, sausages, corned beef, bacon, ham, canned meat and meat-based preparations and sauces.
According to the global health body, the report stemmed from an analysis of data from 10 studies conducted by the body’s International Advisory Committee Working Group, consisting of 22 experts from 10 countries.
The report noted that processed meat increases the risk of cancer because meat can also contain chemicals that form during meat processing or cooking. It stated that carcinogenic chemicals are formed during meat processing.
WHO also posited that about 34,000 cancer deaths annually worldwide can be attributed to diets high in processed meat, according to the most recent estimates by the Global Burden of Disease Project.
While the report also highlighted that red meat, like processed meat, could also be ‘carcinogenic to humans,’ it stated that there was inconclusive evidence.
“Eating red meat has not yet been established as a cause of cancer. However, if the reported associations were proven to be causal, the Global Burden of Disease Project has estimated that diets high in red meat could be responsible for 50,000 cancer deaths per year worldwide. These numbers contrast with about 1 million cancer deaths per year globally due to tobacco smoking, 600,000 per year due to alcohol consumption, and more than 200 000 per year due to air pollution.” “Protein is recommended for adequate diet. So, it is ideal to eat fish about three times a week, and other meat sources such as chicken, for those who can afford it. Proteins from legumes and beans sources are also recommended. Nigerians should limit their intake of meat generally and increase their intake of protein, fibres, vegetables, green and coloured vegetables, because they also provide antioxidants that mop up cancer-forming cells (carcinogens) in organisms.”
In the same vein, a nutritionist, Mr. Okunola Oladimeji, noted that, “Suya is not processed meat but it can be classified as such, because it is exposed to direct heat from the charcoal and chemical compounds which enter into it this way. It is advisable that people who eat suya should eat it with a lot of onions and vegetables that act as antioxidants. It is the chemicals that are the issues, not the meat. Also, one would notice that processed meat in popular roadside sausages do not have the same taste as fresh meat.”
Oladimeji urged Nigerians to go back to the traditional ways of meat preservation to reduce the risk of contracting cancer from processed meat consumption.
He said, “In the olden days, our grandparents used to preserve their meat through natural methods such as drying and roasting, which could keep their meat and fish preserved for months. But today, due to high commercial demands, chemicals are used to preserve the shelf lives of processed meat.
“To be on the safe side, aside from eating the onions and vegetables with suya, the seasoning and processed spices used in preparing suya could be replaced with natural seasonings such as garlic and ginger or local spices, that would make it safer and healthier to eat,” he said, adding that suya should be consumed on occasions, not as a staple.
“In the African culture, people value one’s worth by the quantity of meat one consumes. Once they see what is on the plate, it shows how much one spends to eat. This is why most people that develop cancer are the rich for they are the ones who mostly eat processed meat. Since they don’t have time to cook meat, they buy processed meat for convenience.
“There are other alternatives for protein, such as fish of different types; these also have high nutritional protein value,” he added.
Similarly, the chief lecturer, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, College of Science and Technology, Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna, Dr. Sunday Igah, advised that, “Nigerians should be wary of all kind of processed meat, ranging from fried, spiced, dyed /coloured meat and vegetal meat. As a point of fact, such meat and their analogues processed in recycled–frying –oils have the potential of being transformed to forms that have been associated with carcinogenicity in humans.
“Indeed, some of the red dyes used in some processed meat could interfere with activities of Glucose–6–phoshate dehydrogenase, which is a vital enzyme in the metabolic pathway.”
Igah said suya is a secondary category of processed meat because it is ‘treated’ more than once with heat, vegetable oils and spices.

8 Brutal Truths You Should Know If You Are Dating A First-Born
So…you’re in love with an oldest child, huh?
Oldest children are the best kind of children. (But, of course, I’m biased because I’m an oldest child myself – of five!) If you have the good fortune of loving/dating/marrying/$exing one of us, congrats to you, good sir! You’re in for a fun ride. Just buckle your seat belt first and pay attention to these safety instructions first, will ya?
1. We’re bossy. Like this song, yo. But for real, most oldest children are used to ruling the roost and telling their pep squad of little bro and sis’s what to do and how to do it. This works until said little bro and sis get old enough and put you in your damn place. But still, the bossiness remains.
2. We’re a little entitled. Our parents gave us every opportunity in the world and fawned over us and took more baby photos of us and were more careful the first time around with us, so we’re used to being treated a little special. Life, and all it’s hardships, have a way of chipping away at this perceived “specialness” but still, we got more attention than the rest of our siblings and it’s something that sticks with us forever.
3. We get along great with youngest children. I have no scientific data to back this up, except to say that nearly all my ex-boyfriends (and my current beau) are youngest kids. Maybe they like the authority; who knows?
4. We seek validation. Our parents praised our every move and yes, I know, they really should’ve cut back on that a bit. But as a result of this, we like to be patted on the back and given gold stars when we’ve done something positive. Which leads me to…
5. …We’re over-achievers. We like to be praised, therefore we achieve. It’s almost an addiction. Apologies to younger siblings everywhere who have to live up to their oldest siblings.
6. We take initiative. It’s just what we do. If something needs to be accomplished at work, we will accomplish it – or delegate it to one of our younger siblings (er, employees) to do it for us.
7. We’re great organizers of large groups of people. We can do this with our eyes shut. We’ve been herding our family of sheep into minivans/airplanes/restaurants/etc for YEARS now; corralling people into a semblance of unity should basically be on our resume. In fact, I think it is.
8. We don’t like to share our stuff. Because seriously, our little sisters have been stealing our sweaters/eyeliner/CAR for like, 20 years now and we’re really f*cking over it. Don’t touch our stuff without permission!
